Arsonist in deadly fire to be resentenced

Eric Williams Eric Williams

Burlington, Vermont - January 24, 2012

A man accused of setting a fire at an apartment building that killed a grandmother and her three grandsons will get the chance for a new sentence.

Eric Williams is serving 40-60 years in prison for the deadly blaze he set back in 1999 in Milton.

Williams was denied a new trial after trying to convince the court he was coerced into a confession, but the judge says he should get a new sentencing hearing because his counsel was ineffective when he learned his fate.

Chittenden County Prosecutor T.J. Donovan told WCAX News his office may appeal the judge's ruling.
