Burlington, Vermont – January 30, 2012
The Vermont Department of Health estimated that as of 2007 there were about 2500 migrant farm workers in Vermont.
And according to a Vermont Farm Bureau survey a few years ago, migrant workers contribute to half of all the milk produced in the state. You may not have seen these workers; they often live in secret being scared of police since many are here illegally. A local artist wanted to give these workers a voice, and started the Invisible Odysseys Project. It allows workers to tell their stories through art.
Here on The :30 talk more about the project is artist B. Amore, who came up with the idea and Greg Sharrow the Director of Education at the Vermont Folklife Center, where the project will be on display.
