BOSTON, Ma. -The UVM men's basketball team is breathing a sigh of relief, while the Vermont women are feeling hopeful about the future following an eventful doubleheader between the Cats and Boston University Wednesday night at Agganis.
The men saw a 19 point second half lead cut down to one in the final minute before holding off B-U 68-67 to improve to 14-10 overall, 8-2 in league play and take over sole possession of second place in America East. Luke Apfeld led a balanced UVM attack with 16 points.
The Vermont women were facing a B-U sqaud that was unbeaten in league play, but the young Cats found themselves up five at the half and leading by as many as eight in the second half before running out of steam in the final minutes and falling 72-64.
Shanai Heber had a monster game to lead the Catamounts...13 points, 15 rebounds, six assists, four steals and three blocks and Vermont's freshman continued their fine play. Shavonne White had 14 points...Kayla Burchill ten...Tierra Shumpert nine...Niki Taylor eight points, 12 rebounds.
Both teams host Hartford this weekend. The men Saturday at 1pm, the women Sunday at 1pm.
