BURLINGTON, Vt. -
Sophomore Sandro Carissimo scored 16 points and added a career-high eight rebounds as the Vermont men's basketball team cruised to an 82-56 victory over visiting Hartford.  The win is the sixth straight for the Catamounts, who improve to 15-10 overall and 9-2 in league play.

Vermont led by as many as 32 in the first half to earn its ninth win in its last 10 games. Carissimo was one shy of matching his career-high for points.  Freshman Four McGlynn was the only other Cat in double figures with 14.  Sophomore Brian Voelkel added six points, six rebounds, nine assists and four steals.

"Another big home win today against a feisty Hartford team," said Vermont head coach John Becker. "I thought in the first half we were very good for a long stretch defensively and got a little loose in the second half, but made enough plays to win."

Both teams started the game off sluggish, with each hitting only two of their first 15 attempts from the floor. A layup by Hartford's Oren Faulk cut Vermont's lead to 15-8 with 9:46 remaining in the first half, but the Catamounts responded by opening the game up with the next 25 points to make it 40-8 with 3:11 to go.  The lead never dropped below 20 in the second half.

Vermont is back in action on Monday when it travels to face Maine starting at 7 p.m.
