Police from across the region, including New Hampshire, filed into the Putney fire house Monday with a big announcement -- Case closed on 100 recent burglaries in Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, Massachusetts, and even as far away as Virginia.
"Back in October of 2011, the case really went full speed," said New Hampshire State Police Det. Sgt. Joe DiRusso.
That's when police say they arrested 18-year-olds Lance Thomas and Christopher Goldschmidt. Police say they caught the pair red handed, robbing a steak house in Westmoreland, New Hampshire.
Since then, four other suspects--Criscenzo Ruggerio, Travis Noyes, Cody Loewe, and Dillion Lange have also been arrested in connection with the burglary spree. The six men all have connections to each other. Aside from the steak house, police would not elaborate on what other businesses were targeted, but they did say that the crimes all had similarities.
"What really bought us all together were those connections. That they were all typically commercial industrial places, there were similar types of things stolen, similar times of day," said Vermont State Police Lt. Rick Hopkins.
The burglaries took place over the past year. Police say cash, and in some case guns, were taken from the businesses. The total amount stolen is still being tallied.
Police say a seventh suspect is still on the loose, 21-year-old Logan Critchfield of Walpole, New Hampshire. Police say they are focused on tracking him down using the same technique used to crack the case--teamwork.
"There is always great teamwork, but this is just an exemplary example of how teamwork came together and ultimately helped all the victims in these cases," Sgt. DiRusso said.
All of the six suspects will be arraigned in Vermont Superior Court on March 13th. They face a variety of charges including burglary and unlawful mischief.
