NH fire chief sentenced on drunken driving charge

Posted: Updated:

KEENE, N.H. (AP) - A New Hampshire fire chief has been sentenced to serve three days in jail and seven days in a detention center after he pleaded guilty to drunken driving.

Robert Johnson, fire chief in Hinsdale, pleaded guilty last month on charges stemming from an incident in December, in which the truck he was driving smashed into a utility pole in Northfield, Mass., and then he allegedly fled the scene. He was found by an officer from the Hinsdale Police Department.

Johnson's license will be suspended for 18 months.

It wasn't immediately clear if Johnson would stay on as fire chief, a 1-year elected position in Hinsdale. He has been fire chief since 1995.
