BURLINGTON, Vt. -
A Winooski man is in critical condition after being hit by a vehicle in Burlington.
Police say Michael Sears, 60, of Shelburne, was making a turn on Colchester Avenue at Barrett Street Monday, when he hit Bruce Lapointe, 63, in the crosswalk. Police say speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors and Sears has not been cited with any violations.
"It's a very busy intersection, of
course. It's a main thoroughfare into Burlington. Just the layout of that
intersection is challenging to say the least. So definitely a tragedy occurred (Monday) and we wish our best to the
Lapointe family," Burlington Deputy Police Chief Andi Higbee said.
Lapointe remains hospitalized in critical condition.
