A Walpole Middle School student remains hospitalized in serious condition after shooting himself in the school's cafeteria.
Authorities say Hunter Mack -- an 8th grader -- shot himself in the face in the lunch room around 11 a.m. Friday. About 70 students and staff witnessed the incident. The school was immediately locked down and the boy was airlifted to Dartmouth Hitchcock. The school's principal, who also witnessed the shooting, has not said whether bullying was a factor. Some students said the 14-year-old had been depressed for weeks. Counselors were at the school over the weekend and will be on scene when students return Monday.
