Vermont's entire congressional delegation turned out early Monday to take questions from the state's business community.
Senators Bernie Sanders and Patrick Leahy, as well as Congressman Peter Welch, took the stage at the Lake Champlain Regional Chamber of Commerce's legislative breakfast.
The three men took turns fielding questions. The hour long Q & A focused on Washington's response to Tropical Storm Irene, the national debt and the upcoming elections.
The delegation also addressed the future of healthcare and the affordable care act.
"Contention before the Supreme Court is going to be the individual mandate and you can't have a healthcare system that meets the needs and requirements of every individual, unless every individual helps pay for it," Rep. Welch said.
"We should be aware that if they rule against the healthcare bill, I think that would be very, very unfortunate. Let me be very frank -- I happen to believe the healthcare bill was a step forward," Sen. Sanders said
"I am urging them to open the Supreme Court to television like we do with C-SPAN, so the American people can see in real time what the arguments are," Sen. Leahy said.
The delegation also shared its concerns over the Citizens United decision that allows corporations and interest groups to spend millions of dollars in support political campaigns.
