CONCORD, N.H. (AP) - New amendments to a highly anticipated gambling bill in New Hampshire will get a hearing by the House Ways and Means Committee
The House put off voting on a bill to legalize casino gambling last week after House leadership said the members had not had enough time to consider the new amendments. The amendments would affect the number of casinos to be licensed as well as remove restrictions for legislators who would profit from expanded gaming.
The committee is holding a hearing Monday afternoon.
Bill passage is in doubt, and both gaming supporters and opponents are scrambling to shore up votes. The House has never passed a gambling bill, and it would require a two-thirds majority if it hopes to override the promised veto by Gov. John Lynch.
