Emma Vieira
BURLINGTON, Vt. -
The charges against a teenager in a
texting and driving case will stand.
Police say phone records reveal that
Emma Vieira, 18, of Colchester, was texting when she hit a pedestrian in August
of last year. Vieira is charged with gross negligent operation with serious
injury resulting.
Wednesday her lawyer asked the judge
to dismiss the charges because prosecutors failed to meet court deadlines. But
the judge denied the motion.
Vieira's lawyers also asked the judge
to allow her to resume driving pending trial so she can get to her early-morning
job. The judge said he would rule on that motion later.
