Police: Crash data recorder led to charges in fatal accident

Posted: Updated:
BRIDGEWATER, Vt. -

Vt. State police say evidence from a crash data recorder led them to seek felony charges in connection with a double-fatal accident.

The crash happened Jan. 15 on Route 4 in Bridgewater. Police say Joshua Ouimette, 25, of Rutland, crossed the centerline and hit another car head-on, killing Christopher Raleigh, 56, and his son Travis, 10, of Las Vegas.

Ouimette was charged this week with two counts of careless and negligent operation with death resulting.

Police told the Rutland Herald the felony charges are warranted because data from the computer in Ouimette's car indicates he was speeding, swerved suddenly into the other lane and never applied his brakes.
