A Vermont woman convicted of embezzling $1.6 million will get an extra week of freedom before reporting to prison.

Joyce Bellavance was sentenced to 3-and-a-half years in prison for stealing from the Hardwick Electric Department.

She found out she's to serve that time in a federal prison in Minnesota. But her lawyer says she should be sent to prison in Danbury, Conn. -- much closer to her family.

A federal judge on Friday gave Bellavance a one-week extension in her surrender date so she can seek a change in the prison designation.
