BURLINGTON, Vt. -
It's hard to believe, but we could soon be experiencing the spring thaw. And that could mean high water and flooding.
Last spring there was flash flooding. Lake Champlain's water level reached twice the level of the previous record and flooded hundreds of lakefront properties causing millions of dollars in damage.
In preparation for the spring thaw, officials are working to get the word out about preparing for an emergency to both homeowners and business owners.
Dan Whipple and George Walker with VOSHA, the Vermont Department of Labor Occupational Safety & Health Administration, appeared on The :30 to talk about preparing for potential spring flooding. They are hosting a free workshop on the topic and are here with a preview.
For more, watch the video from The :30.
The free emergency preparedness workshop is next Thursday, Feb. 23, from 8:30-10 a.m. at Montpelier City Hall.
