GOUVERNEUR, N.Y. (AP) - One man has been killed and another injured in an accident at a northern New York snowmobile race.

Authorities tell local media that 53-year-old Donald Theriault of Fraserville, Ontario, was speeding into a curve on the half-mile oval when he hit a hay bale barrier and was thrown from his sled at the Gouverneur-St. Lawrence County Fairgrounds in Gouverneur (guhv-er-NOOR'). He was pronounced dead at a hospital.

They say 47-year-old John Altman III of Fulton collided with Theriault's crashed machine and was also thrown off. His family says he was treated for a wrist fracture and bruises before being released from the hospital.

The accident happened just after 3 p.m. Saturday. Gouverneur is about 100 miles north of Syracuse.
