Victoria Scripps-CarmodyBURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) - Two men have pleaded guilty in a cocaine and heroin-distribution conspiracy in Burlington. A third defendant, who is the descendant of the founder of a newspaper company, is expected to go on trial next month.
The Burlington Free Press reports 31-year-old Sherman "Shawn" Shuler of Burlington and 19-year-old Earl "Phil" Lawyer of Essex pleaded guilty last week to one count of conspiracy to distribute heroin and cocaine. They are being held pending sentencing.
Victoria Scripps-Carmody, 21, has pleaded innocent to heroin and cocaine distribution conspiracy charges. Prosecutors allege she allowed two co-defendants to stay at her Burlington apartment to help with drug distribution. Court records say police also seized 193 bags of heroin from Scripp-Carmody's vehicle after it was stopped in Brattleboro en route to Vermont from Holyoke, Mass.
