A new report shows there is a pile of money missing from Vermont school districts.
State auditor Tom Salmon asked school districts to report any unaccounted losses they've seen in the past decade.
According to the report:
16 districts have experienced theft, embezzlement, or wire fraud.
The incidents amount to $415,000 in missing funds.
Seven of the incidents resulted in criminal cases.
Salmon, who has been sounding the alarm about embezzlement risks in local government, says the report is evidence of "glaring weaknesses in controls over cash, accountability and security" that are unnecessarily putting tax dollars at risk.
