Vt toys for sale at Smithsonian

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. -

A Middlebury toy company is making its debut at the Smithsonian museums in Washington, D.C.

Games made by Maple Landmark Woodcraft won't be on exhibit, but will soon be sold at Smithsonian gift shops.

Sales Manager Jill Stackhouse says she had always wanted to sell to the Smithsonian but never had any luck. That was, until last year when Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vermont, claimed he visited a Smithsonian gift shop and found no American-made products. Sanders' office helped the shop get in contact with the museum and the toys will be on store shelves any day now.

"People come to this country, they come to visit the Smithsonian and they want to take something back from this country.  And I feel the same way when I shop and go somewhere; I want to buy something from that place, not something that has been imported from somewhere else," Stackhouse said.
