A Republican state senator in the Northeast Kingdom says he is strongly considering a run for Vermont attorney general.
Vince Illuzzi tells WCAX News he's been urged by community members and and colleagues at the Statehouse to take on Democrat incumbent Bill Sorrell this November. Illuzzi is a state's attorney and has been a senator for 32 years.
Illuzzi says he is considering running as an independent because it should be a nonpartisan office. He says he's frustrated with how the AG's office has been operated, and points to three high profile losses in federal court under Sorrell's leadership.
Sorrell tells us he welcomes the opportunity to compare his record against Illuzzi's record and will let the voters decide who should have the responsibility of the AG's office.
