Man accused of murder wants to represent self

Posted: Updated:
BURLINGTON, Vt. -

A homeless man accused of murdering a Burlington social worker wants to represent himself during his upcoming trial.

Jose Pazos, 46, allegedly stabbed and killed Kathleen Smith, 50, inside her Park Street home in November of 2010.

Police say Pazos committed the murder because he was angry that Smith had sided with a friend in her child custody battle against Pazos.

A judge will rule on Pazos' request at a hearing next week.

Trial is slated to begin in August.
