BRATTLEBORO, Vt. -
An historic Brattleboro building gutted by fire last year is now being sold.
The Brooks House building on Main Street has been empty since the fire last April. About a dozen business and 60 tenants had to be relocated.
The current owner has agreed to sell the building to a new investment group, which includes a local architect.
Downtown merchants are excited to hear the news.
"With new energy in it, it will mean more people will express interest in the town. And it will give us an opportunity to market the town better and have exciting new things to offer the community and the whole Northeast," said Greg Worden, a Main Street business owner.
New owners hope to raise about $14 million. Construction is scheduled to begin in about six months.
