Police: Claremont man run down by driver

Posted: Updated:
CLAREMONT, N.H. -

Authorities in Claremont, New Hampshire are investigating a homicide. According to the New Hampshire Attorney General's office, a 45-year-old man was found dead at his home after apparently being hit by a car.

It was a tragic turn of events early Saturday evening on Roosevelt Road, a quiet residential side street in Claremont.

"The commotion all night long -- It was nothing but blue lights and the lab, crime lab crew was here all night long," said Edith Faucher, a local resident.

That's because around 6 p.m. Saturday, according to neighbors, local and state police were called to the home of Arthur Desilets at 15 Roosevelt Road.  Police say Desilets was found dead after being run over by 47-year-old David Carrier.

"It's just not something you expect," Faucher said. "You don't see that in our neighborhood. Our neighborhood is a rather quiet neighborhood and we like to keep it that way."

Shock quickly turned to sadness as crime units combed the scene Saturday and Sunday, the pink marks on the pavement marking what appears to be the vehicle's path.

Mary Judd, who lives in the neighborhood, says Desilets worked for an oil company in town and was always a good neighbor. "Very much so -- a guy that would give you the shirt off his back if he could, you know. As he said, he wouldn't gyp ya -- that's what he always told me," Judd said.

The New Hampshire Attorney General's office and police declined to comment on any motive behind the manslaughter charge. Neighbors and family confirmed that the two men knew each other. Carrier is scheduled to be arraigned Monday.

New Hampshire State Police are asking anyone who may have information about the homicide to call (603) 271-3636.
