Police have confirmed that the body
found floating in the St. Albans City Pool Monday afternoon is that of missing
Swanton man Chris Davis, 22.
Investigators spent the day protecting
the pool because now they're calling it a crime scene, but they won't say if
Davis is a victim of foul play. The medical examiner was unable to determine a
timeline for Davis' death or what killed him. Franklin County State's Attorney
Jim Hughes-- who was on the scene Tuesday-- says it's a complicated autopsy, in
part because of the length of time the body was in the water. Investigators
have not ruled out homicide and plan to secure the scene overnight.
"It's certainly a
serious crime scene. As you can tell they've drained the pool, sifting whatever
was on the bottom looking for any signs of evidence. There's going to be a
serious investigation," Hughes said.
The victim's family says
Davis has been missing since mid-March. And police say he may be behind a
string of robberies in Franklin county. The medical examiner plans to resume
the autopsy Wednesday morning.
