Training to run a marathon or other big race is a huge commitment and a strenuous goal. And it's important to remember to allow time for recovery.

Marathon Taper:

The Marathon Taper traditionally starts three weeks before the marathon. It is one of the most important aspects of your marathon training. You want to be fully recovered from your previous workouts and rested for your big event.

Pre-Marathon Checklist:

1. 4-6 weeks before - Decide on your running shoes and socks for race day.

2. 4-6 weeks before - Pick out your race day "outfit". Give yourself enough time to run in these clothes.

3. Marathon week - treat any problem spots on your feet.

4. Marathon Week - If you have had a massage in the past, consider getting one.

5. Read all materials sent to you by the organizers.
