Dartmouth, Plattsburgh Notch Baseball Wins

Posted: Updated:

Dartmouth scored 11 runs in the first three innings, then gradually emptied its bench as it cruised to a 13-6 victory over visiting Hartford under overcast skies on Tuesday afternoon at Red Rolfe Field at Biondi Park. Eight of the nine starters scored and drove in at least one run apiece as the Big Green won for the 14th times in their last 15 games to improve to 23-16 on the season. This was the final game for Dartmouth before traveling to Ithaca, N.Y., this weekend to play at Cornell in the best-of-three Ivy Championship Series.

Plattsburgh (20-15) tied the game up with Canton (9-26) with a pair of runs in the bottom half of the second on an RBI double by Casey Brighton and an RBI single by Damian Tyler.

Brighton drove in two more runs in the third before scoring on a single by Mike Varques to give the Cardinals a 5-2 lead. The Cardinals scored an unearned run in the fifth and Mike Mulvihill hit a solo home run over the left field fence in the sixth to round out the offense for the night.

Brighton had a nice night at the plate for Plattsburgh, going 2-for-3 with three RBIS and two runs scored. Tyler and Jon Handy each added two hits. Pat Shaughnessy swiped three bases for the Cardinals.

The Cardinals wrap up the regular season tomorrow at Canton. The non-conference doubleheader is set to begin at 2 p.m.
