Rutland City Treasurer Wendy Wilton is running for State Treasurer.
Wilton has served as Rutland City Treasurer since 2007. Before that, the 53-year-old Republican served two years in the state Senate representing Rutland County.
Analysis by Wilton suggests the state will need to implement a new payroll tax of 14.5 percent. But even with that new tax, the state is likely to run budget deficits of 300-million dollars a year -- in part -- because Wilton believes the Shumlin Administration is over-estimating the cost savings a single-payer system will deliver.
