BARRE, Vt. -
A convicted murderer is out of jail for the first time in 21 years.
Douglas Mason was released from prison Thursday.
The 43-year-old was convicted in 1992 of stabbing and killing John Irons at the former Heiress Motel in Barre.
Mason claimed Iron had made several sexual advances toward him.
Now that he's out of prison, Mason will be monitored by a federal probation officer for three years. He tells the Burlington Free Press that he's a changed man and looks forward to starting a new life.
