
Rain couldn't stop Vermont's best high school athletes from competing in the State Track and Field Championships on Saturday.
Division 1 met at Burlington High School. Brattleboro's Jacob Ellis set a new state record in the 1500m. His winning time of 3:57.33 seconds broke the old Division 1 record set in 1986. Ellis also won the 800 meters. South Burlington's Mollie Gribbin won 4 events including a record setting performance in the 100m dash. Her new D1 record time 12.10. Essex won the girls team title while St. Johnsbury captured the boys team title.
The Division 2 meet was held in Fair Haven. Lyndon's Riley Blankenship won the Javelin, Shot put and discus. Her top throw in the discus going 131-00. Montpelier's Colby Cunningham won the 100 meter dash, the long jump, high jump and triple jump. The Harwood Girls are the D2 team champs while WIndsor wins the boys title.
The Division 3 and 4 meet was held in Chester. It's the first year for Division 4. Rain forced organizers to postpone the field events until Tuesday. Highlighting the day, Richford's Elinor Purrier won the D4 1500m race and Miller River's Brooke Davis won that same event in D3. Dylan Pelletier of Rivendell is the new D4 100m champ while Woodstock's Stephanie Ambrose wins the D3 400m with a time of 1:01.11.
