3 arrested for Newport home invasion, assault

NEWPORT, Vt. -

Three men are in custody for a home invasion and assault in the City of Newport.

Police say Donald Cross, Peter Cirone and David Fletcher broke into the 2nd Street apartment through a window Sunday morning. 

Police say the trio severely beat a male occupant, shot him with a pellet gun and stole money-- related to an unspecified grudge.  The victim was hospitalized with extensive facial injuries.
