NEWPORT, Vt. (AP) - Three northern Vermont men are being held on charges stemming from an attack on a man in a Newport apartment.
Police say the victim was unrecognizable to police following the Sunday incident and his apartment was covered with blood.
The victim, Mark Perron, 51, of Newport, was taken to the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H.
The Caledonian Record reports that the three men charged in the case pleaded not guilty in court in Newport, although they told police they broke into Perron's apartment and beat him.
Donald Cross, 46, was ordered held on $50,000 bail. Peter Cirone, 43, of Newport, and David Fletcher, 20, of Coventry, were both held on $20,000 bail.
A police report says the alleged assailants had a grudge against Perron.
