Another arrest in connection with a deadly crash in Colchester. Now the teen driver's mother is facing charges for giving him booze before he got behind the wheel.

Police say James Companion, 16, took five shots of alcohol before he lost control of the car and slammed into a utility pole on Bay Road in Colchester. The crash killed his passenger, Tasha Maring, 25. Companion pled not guilty to the DUI charge last week. Now his mom, Melissa Grant, 43, is facing charges for supplying the alcohol.

Chittenden County Prosecutors T.J. Donovan says this arrest sends a message.

"Parents have to be on notice that they can't provide alcohol to people underage in their homes or outside on their yards. And when those young people get behind the wheel of a car and drive and something terrible happens, as it did in this case, we're going to hold people accountable. This should not be happening. We can prevent these deaths. We have to be smart," Donovan said.

Grant is due in court next week. If convicted she could face five years behind bars.
