New park for pooches

Posted: Updated:
SHELBURNE, Vt. -

A new dog park in Shelburne will be packed with pooches this summer.

Community members cut the ribbon on 3-acre plot on Harbor Road. Organizers say this project just past the Shelburne community school has been in the works for more than two years. The land was donated by a community member who prefers to remain anonymous. An additional 25-thousand dollars was fundraised for the fence and landscaping.

Robin Shover, representative for the Shelburne Village Dog Park said,  "Its really great for the social aspect to get to know other members of your community. To meet them with a commonality that we're all interested in, people just hang around the park let the dogs play and they socialize and get to know each other."

Organizers say there's still a lot of work to be done, in five years they hope to have water fountains, dog washing stations, and eco-friendly lighting run on dog waste.
