
The Division One softball state championship game was more like a 2 part season finale. Part one taking place friday night with the epic conclusion this evening between number two BFA ST. Albans and top-seed Essex. Game tied at 2-2 in the fourth, Jordi Begin at the plate. The pitch is low, but the winds were high. Moments later, rain falls and the game is suspended with Begin still at the plate. Tonight, the sun shining in Poultney. Begin resumes her at bat and crushes the ball to center field. A 3-day at bat results in a solo home run giving the Hornets a 3-2 lead. Essex adds to the lead in the sixth, Samantha Poratti hits an RBI single to left. It's part of a 3 run inning. Essex leads 6-2 going to the 7th inning. The Comets put on their rally caps. Chelsea Abbott takes one deep to center and barely misses a home run. Abbott stands in with a double and later scores to cut it to a 6-3 deficit. But the lead for Essex was just too much to overcome. Hornets pitcher Alexis Perry buckles down and gets the final out to end it. Essex completes the perfect 19-0 season winning the Division One title by a final score of 6-3.
