MONTPELIER, Vt. -

Vermont tax revenues surged above expectations for a third straight month, putting state government on pace to finish fiscal year 2012 with a small surplus.

Tax collections for May were almost 10 percent above the forecast of the Shumlin administration and the Legislature. With one month left in the fiscal year, total general fund revenues are now just about 1 percent ahead of projections and 3 percent better than last year.
