Boston University is leaving the America East Conference to join the Patriot League. The move takes affect at the start of the 2013-2014 season. Both Terrier hockey programs will remain apart of the Hockey East Conference.
B.U. was a founding member of the America East Conference in 1979. The Terriers are now the 9th team in the Patriot League joining American University, Army, Bucknell, Colgate, Holy Cross, Lafayette, Lehigh, and Navy. Three associate members participate in one sport each: Fordham and Georgetown in football and MIT in women's rowing.
The America East is now down to Eight teams, including the University of Vermont. It's not known, as of now, if officials will pursue other teams to join the conference going forward.
