RUTLAND, Vt. -
Rutland's mayor tells WCAX News a new opiate treatment center will not be built on Granger Street.
Everyone agrees Rutland is in desperate need for more drug treatment, but finding a place to do it has been very difficult.
State health officials wanted to use a former gym on Granger Street, but Thursday night residents rejected that idea.
Now Mayor Chris Louras wants the center built on West Street near where a VA clinic is slated to go.
The Vermont health commissioner set June 15 as a deadline for finding a spot for the clinic, but is waiving it so that the state, city, and nearby residents can find a place everyone likes.
