A water rescue on Lake Champlain.
According to fire fighters, a wind surfer near Isle LaMotte tipped over Sunday morning and was unable to right herself. Rescue crews say the high winds caused her to drift north fairly quickly. Two people in a canoe attempted to rescue the woman, but they too ended up capsizing due to high waves. The U.S. Coast guard responded, along with other rescue teams, to retrieve the three people. However, they ended up being brought to shore by two passing boaters. The woman was in the water for about 40 minutes, but all three were rescued within an hour.
Paramedics treated all three people on the scene. None of the victims needed hospitalization.
Dan Rainville, Assistant Chief of the Isle LaMotte Fire Dept. says, "the water is still a little chilly, people are going to enjoy the water that's for sure, but life jackets are a must. I think that is what helped in this situation. That and the assistance of other boaters, people helping people."
