Man shot during alleged home invasion denies charges

BURLINGTON, Vt. -

Police say he was shot in the abdomen during a drug-related gun fight in Winooski, but fled from the hospital over the weekend.

Angel Concepcion, 23, of New York City, denied felony charges Monday in connection with a home invasion last week on River Street.

Police say Concepcion and Trinelle Cox, 25, also of New York City, were looking for a drug dealer who sometimes stayed at the Winooski apartment. Police say the resident shot both men after they tried to force their way inside. The two men were taken to Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington for gunshot wounds.

On Saturday, Concepcion left the hospital without telling anyone still hooked to an IV and wearing only a hospital gown. He was arrested later at a hotel in Shelburne. He's being held without bail. Police say Concepcion may also be connected to another recent drug-related shooting in South Burlington.

Cox remains in intensive care and police say he will most likely be paralyzed from his injuries.
