Vt health officials urge caution in heat

Posted: Updated:

MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - The Vermont Department of Health is warning people to be careful when temperatures reach into the 90s as is forecast for later this week.

The National Weather Service says humidity is also expected to increase and by Wednesday some locales could feel like temperatures are more than 100 degrees.

In extreme conditions, high temperatures can lead to heat-related illnesses.

The Health Department and Vermont Emergency Management say the elderly, children, and people with respiratory ailments are most susceptible to the heat.

It's recommended that people slow down, avoid strenuous activity and drink plenty of water.
