MONTPELIER, Vt. -
Vermont's green and gold celebrate a year of achievements.
The Vermont State Police color guard started the ceremony Tuesday morning. Friends and family of troopers and civilian members filled the House chamber of the Statehouse. They came together to celebrate the promotions of 17 members of the state police. A special thanks also went out to the dispatchers, whose behind-the-scenes efforts keep emergency communications running smoothly. Nearly four dozen others were given awards for acts of heroism and community service.
"This is a 24-7 job. Many people don't understand that or recognize it and very frankly never will understand that. But for those of you who live that every day, thank you very much," Vt. Public Safety Commissioner Keith Flynn said.
The commissioner also recognized the families. He said their support keeps these emergency responders going during demanding days on the job.
