A new program at the University of Vermont is trying to make composting even greener.
UVM Recycling has teamed up with bicycle collection service One Revolution and the UVM Bike Users Group to collect compostable materials from office buildings.
The pilot program will collect from about 30 UVM offices. Staff in those offices will set aside compostable materials for pickup twice a week. A UVM student will then bike to the locations and pick up the materials.
So far, organizers say the program is averaging about 40 pounds of food per pickup.
