Vt board says border wind can reapply

Posted: Updated:

DERBY, Vt. (AP) - Vermont utility regulators say a wind power developer can reapply for a permit to build an industrial scale wind turbine on a hilltop not far from the Canadian border in Derby Line.

Last month, Encore Redevelopment of Burlington withdrew an application to build two turbines along the border after a public outcry by neighbors in the United States and Canada.

Encore's Chad Farrell says his company will not seek to erect a turbine on Smugglers Hill about 1,000 feet from the Canadian border. Opponents said it would be too close to Canadian homes.

The Caledonian Record says Farrell is seeking to reapply for just one of the turbines, on Grand View Farm.
