MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - Vermonters can expect to see and hear more Vermont National Guard helicopters over the next week during an annual training.
The Vermont National Guard's Air Ambulance Company, C/3-126, will be using airfields around the state, including South Burlington, Colchester, Rutland, Bennington, Middlebury and Franklin.
On Saturday, the unit will be doing live hoist training on the Burlington waterfront.
Officials say the Guard members are training to support Vermont in emergencies and for future overseas deployments.
Following Tropical Storm Irene, Guard helicopters from Vermont, New Hampshire, and Illinois distributed food, water and medical supplies to Vermont towns cut off by the storm.
