BARTON, Vt. -

A surprise for beach-goers in Barton Thursday when two aircraft flew close to the water on Crystal Lake then took off.

But what the planes were doing and where they came from remains a mystery.

Witnesses say they looked like military aircraft flying about 30 feet over the water Thursday afternoon, and then they performed a maneuver.

The Vermont National Guard agrees it looks military, but says it wasn't them. They had no planes in that area.

The FAA says there were no military aircraft on radar. They're looking into it.
