Son accused of embezzling from mother in Vt

Posted: Updated:

ST. ALBANS, Vt. (AP) - Police have accused a Vermont man of diverting more than $8,300 from his mother's bank account, leaving her without any money to heat her home.

The Burlington Free Press reports David Clark and Tabitha Durcharme of Swanton are scheduled to be arraigned Monday in St. Albans on embezzlement charges.

Swanton Police Chief Leonard Stell says the case unfolded after Clark's mother, 76-year-old Sally Denton, ran out of fuel at her home. She could not get any delivered because a payment plan on an overdue bill had not been followed. Stell said the 42-year-old Clark had the authority to pay his mother's bills.

It wasn't immediately known if Clark and Ducharme had lawyers.
