BURLINGTON, Vt. -

Burlington police are crediting alert residents with cracking several burglary cases.

Thursday night police arrested Eric Petri, 23, of Jericho, and charged him with five burglaries in Burlington's Hill Section.

Police say Jason Anderson, 36, of Burlington, was arrested Tuesday while burglarizing a home, and they say he's connected to at least two break-ins in the South End.

In both cases police found the suspects thanks to neighbors calling in to report seeing someone suspicious in the area.

"These folks had no reason to be in the areas that they were. They're acting out of the ordinary-- aloof. And they, the community members, did exactly what we've asked and pleaded with them to do: take an active role, call us, let us do our job. And I cannot commend them enough," Burlington Deputy Police Chief Andi Higbee said.

Police are now examining evidence from several other Burlington burglaries to see if either suspect is connected. Right now investigators do not think the two men were working together.
