
Two "Good Samaritans" saved an elderly women from a burning car.
The accident happened Friday in Newport Center. Police say 81-year-old Beverly Carter of Washington D.C. was driving west on Route 105 when she went off the road and hit a tree. The car then caught fire while Carter was trapped inside. Two passing motorists stopped and were able to free the woman from the vehicle before it became fully engulfed in flames. She was transported from the scene to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center.
Police say Carter had either fallen asleep or suffered some medical problem causing her to leave the road.
The names of the two men have not been released.
