Bakersfield animal cruelty case closed

BAKERSFIELD, Vt. -

It's case closed on a big animal cruelty investigation in Bakersfield.

Karen Maple, 48, pleaded no contest as part of a plea deal. Authorities inspected 68 malnourished dogs at Maple's home on Hennessey Road last July.

Maple will not serve any jail time and will also get to keep her animals, but she is no longer allowed to breed dogs.

She will also serve two years probation and will be closely monitored by local veterinarians.
