Kidnapper wants to represent self against new charges

CABOT, Vt. -

A convicted kidnapper facing 27 new charges now wants to fire his lawyer.

Harley Breer, 42, told a judge Monday that he wants to represent himself.

Police say Breer sexually assaulted and repeatedly beat a woman in 2011 and then stole her car. He then fled afterward.

If convicted, Breer could be sentenced to life in prison under Vermont's habitual offender law.

According to the Barre Montpelier Times-Argus, Breer wants to fire his lawyer because he doesn't think the case is moving along quickly enough.

A judge is expected to rule on the request in the next couple of weeks.
