WCAX, NESN team up for Fenway coverage

BOSTON -

You may notice some familiar Channel 3 faces the next time you watch a Red Sox game.

Starting tonight, WCAX is teaming up with the New England Sports Network (NESN) to bring you live reports from Fenway Park.

Mike McCune will appear as a guest on NESN's Boston Red Sox pregame show, and our weather department will be providing forecasts from the ballpark on both NESN and Channel 3.

You will also notice some familiar NESN faces here on WCAX. Don Orsillo, Jerry Remy and Jenny Dell will be reporting live from Fenway on game nights during our 6 p.m. news.

Fenway Park may be in a different state, but it is very much a beloved place for many Vermonters.

Our new agreement is the latest link between the Green Monster and the Green Mountain State.

When Fenway Park opened in 1912, Vermonters and UVM grads Ray Collins and Larry Gardner helped lead the team to the league's best record. Gardner, a Sox Hall of Famer and Enosburgh resident, drove in the winning run in the final inning of that year's World Series.

New Hampshire native Carlton Fisk was born in Bellows Falls where he also played American Legion baseball. Fenway's left-field foul pole bears his name-- a tribute to his iconic blast in game six of the 1975 World Series.

And of course his teammate, Spaceman Bill Lee, calls Vermont home. He still plays baseball in almost any form, but now gets his signals from Burlington's mayor.
